What do birds know about the formation of flocks, so mighty in all their airiness, yet without visible outlines of shapes that are evident to the human eye from the ground? Each bird intuitively takes its place in the flock during flight, in relation to its fellow birds. The same is done by its companions, so the flock moves almost like a single organism. The latter is constantly stirred by the wind at its core, while the birds within it, in a free interplay, sometimes take on a more intimate pose in the evening sun, and at other times the wind's current carries them with all its intensity into sharper and darker outlines of matter in the sky. We, however, are different birds. Since we cannot fly, we form sound, and our formations are sonic formations, they are loud, they resonate. JATA KAUK is a musical ensemble of four representatives from the younger generation of improvised music. Their mutual connections and friendship go back to the previous decade, and in this lineup, they started performing in 2024. All four were previously students of jazz music, and their musical expression breathes well in modern and free improvisational forms, deconstructing and scattering existing and original compositions. In a somewhat non-standard lineup of instruments, the members of Kauke are Nina Virant on vocals, Mojca Zupančič on keyboards and synthesizers, Mišel Kosi on the transverse flute, and Janez Sagadin on percussion.
