THREADS OF SOUND: Exploring the Sound Within

The workshop will focus on exploring various techniques while approaching the voice as a powerful instrument.
How can the physical body enhance the voice in all its strength and expressiveness?
How can we unlock freedom and support each other through group improvisation?
Participants will experience the liberation of their voices through spontaneous composition, embracing the creative flow of the moment.

Sandra Halužan (HR)

Sandra Halužan is a Croatian jazz musician known for her innovative approach to jazz, seamlessly blending traditional elements with avant-garde influences. A versatile artist, she is proficient in vocals, clarinet, tenor saxophone, and the Indian double flute.

Since 2020, she has led the Sandra Halužan Quartet, collaborating with prominent Croatian musicians such as Joe Kaplowitz (piano), Nikola Šantek (piano), Bojan Skočilić (double bass), Antun Profeta (drums), and Borko Rupena (drums). The ensemble frequently explores different lineups and original compositions, all aimed at deeper sonic exploration.

In March 2022, the quartet released their debut album, "Vu plavem", featuring original works alongside reimagined traditional songs from the Zagorje region. The album was met with critical acclaim for its distinctive sound and artistic depth.

Sandra is an active performer and vocal coach, playing a key role in shaping Croatia’s jazz scene. Her teaching focuses on liberating the voice, encouraging musical exploration and growth, and fostering a sense of freedom through the voice and body as a unified instrument.

She is also the founder and artistic director of two music festivals and educational programs in Croatia: Jezera Jazz Festival and New Tradition Festival.

In addition to composing and performing, Sandra is currently engaged in sound frequency research for therapeutic purposes, further expanding her artistic and scientific inquiry into sound.
