DUO ARITMIJA

Duo Aritmija Aritmija consists of guitarists and composers Tilen Stepišnik and Šemsudin Dino Džopa from Ljubljana, Slovenia. Formed in 2002, they have since developed their unique style, which could be described as world-music, encompassing genres such as rock, jazz, flamenco, classical music and Balkan ethno music, which is distinguished by its use of irregular meter, time signatures such as 7/8 and 9/8. It is precisely these irregular time signatures that provide the rhythmic foundation for most of Aritmija’s original compositions. The asymmetric time prompted the idea for the band’s name Aritmija (arrhythmia; an alteration in rhythm). Aritmija has released 2 CDs with a larger group of musicians, Gonilna sila (2007) and Aritmija live (2010), and 2 CDs as a guitar duo, Ulica (2012) and 20 (2023). They have performed more than 600 concerts in Slovenia and abroad: Switzerland, France, Italy, UK, Austria, Germany, India, Uzbekistan. Some of the venues include international festivals TTF Rudolstadt (DE), Madame Guitar Festival (IT), Uhuru (CH), Open Eye Festival (CH), FIMU (FR), Tunnel Vienna Live (AT), Gomad Festival (Ooty, India), National Gallery of Modern Art (Mumbai, India), India Habitat Centre (New Delhi, India), open-air theater Križanke (Ljubljana, SI) etc. The band is currently involved in two expanded projects based on Aritmija's original music. In the project Aritmija & Symbolic Quartet the duo joins forces with the exceptional classical string quartet to present Aritmija's compositions in a new light. 2016 saw the first collaboration of Aritmija feat. Sabiha Khan & Vinayak Netke, Aritmija's international project with two renowned musicians and composers from Mumbai, India, vocalist Sabiha Khan and virtuoso tabla player Vinayak Netke. The unique world- music project combines Aritmija’s music with energetic and emotional Indian sounds and rhythms into a powerful musical blend. The group has appeared at international festivals in Slovenia and Europe four times and has toured India four times, performing at prestigious venues in Mumbai, Bangalore, Ooty, Jaipur and New Delhi.
